Camp Sagemont Director Danielle Guski shares more about what’s in store this summer at Camp Sagemont.

Please tell us more about the Spanish Immersion Plus camp.

Campers will practice speaking, writing and reading Spanish, while learning about different Spanish cultures, countries and cuisine through a variety of activities such as singing songs, cooking, playing games, and arts and crafts. Campers will conclude their experience with a culturally-rich field trip to a local Spanish restaurant for lunch. The Spanish Immersion Plus camp is for students entering third through sixth grade. Campers will be divided into small learning groups based on their Spanish proficiency. It is offered in two two-week sessions from June 13th to July 8th. This program is from 9am to 12 noon each day, at which time campers will join a camp group of their peers.

What can campers expect from the new Cooking Up Math & Science Plus camp?

Campers will conduct experiments with food and different ingredients as they explore how food may affect their body in a positive or negative manner. They will investigate and solve problems of how to reduce calories in everyday recipes through healthy food substitutions and how to prevent heartburn when cooking with acidic foods. Cooking Up Math & Science Plus campers will be exposed to measurements that are made during food preparation. Campers will also learn proper food handling, hygiene and kitchen safety. This program is for children entering third through sixth grade. It is offered for two two-week sessions from July 11th to August 5th. The program is from 9am to 12 noon each day, at which time campers will join a camp group of their peers.
